Separate home consoles, handhelds and controllers

A home console may place its rechargeable battery mainly in the controller, a handheld normally has a larger installed battery, and a retro system may have only a settings button cell. A retailer bundle can add a wireless headset and accessories.

• List every console, controller, headset, remote and wireless accessory.
• A button cell installed in equipment differs from a loose spare button cell.
• Identify discs, game cards, cables and a battery-free dock separately.

Installed batteries, spares and quantity

A compliant battery installed in sound equipment is generally easier to arrange than a bare battery; a spare and power bank are commonly treated as standalone batteries. Japan Post conditions limit cells or assembled batteries in one international item and eligible destinations.

• Calculate Wh = V × Ah rather than estimating from runtime.
• Several handhelds or wireless controllers in one carton may exceed ordinary count.
• Split or use a current battery route when needed, and reassess every carton.

Used and retro-system risks

An old handheld battery may swell, old-console capacitors may leak and battery bays may corrode. Modified, repaired and unlabelled replacement batteries make specifications harder to prove. Obtain boot, port, drive, display and battery images.

• Do not warehouse a swollen, leaking, overheating, recalled or unknown battery.
• Remove freely moving game cards and discs and protect the drive.
• Protect collector packaging separately and retain serial and modification evidence.

Region, power, wireless and digital service

A Japanese model may have game, DVD or Blu-ray, DLC, account, network, wireless, power and warranty conditions. Retro hardware also raises video-standard and modern-display compatibility.

• Check the model plate, input voltage, frequency, plug and transformer need.
• Confirm game and disc region, language, store account and code validity.
• Include destination wireless approval, repair and return costs in the decision.
